Number Trouble

It became very obvious this weekend that Morgan is struggling with recognizing her numbers. She knows them (can count) and she can tell me which number is higher/lower if asked verbally, and can do simple verbal addition and subtraction (if you have three apples and give me one, how many do you have?), but when it comes to the written number - forget about it. She can recognize numbers up to 5 and then after that she has no clue. We have been working on this for awhile, but she just can't seem to grasp the concept.

As a side note, she does not have this problem with letters. She is able to recognize all the letters of the alphabet and has started to spell/read simple words like zoo, mom and cat.

If anyone has any ideas on how to help her improve this skill (games, videos, etc.), I would love to hear about it.

How about when you pass speed limit signs you point it out, like 60, 70, etc., and see if that helps some. That's what we do. Then there's always the handy flash cards. Oh, what about cards, like go fish.

Thanks Jamie for the suggestions. I really like the speed limit sign idea. We have been playing Go Fish with her for a while, and it's been a challenge. The whole game goes like this - no, that's not a 6, it's an 8. do you have a 6? It looks like this (show card). Then you can ask for an 8 on the next turn. It's what she just showed you and you just told her what it is, but she STILL doesn't remember. I don't know why it doesn't click for her. It's got to sink in someday, right??
